Waste Disposal Facilities
All Council’s facilities are licenced under the Environmental Protection Act 1994 and are licenced to accept general waste and limited regulated waste.
Longreach Regional Council strictly accepts waste only from within our Local Government Area. Council does not accept waste or materials from other locations beyond our LGA boundary.

Proterra Group operate the Longreach Waste Disposal Facility on behalf of Longreach Regional Council.
Opening Hours:
7:30am and 5:30pm seven days per week
Excluding certain public holidays:
- ANZAC Day (1/2 day morning closure)
- Good Friday
- Christmas Day
- Boxing Day
- New Years Day
The following items can be disposed of at the Longreach Waste Facility:
- General Waste
- Green Waste
- Waste Oils
- Used Batteries
- Scrap Metal
- Construction waste
- Tyres, Asbestos and any other hazardous materials requires prior approval. Fees apply.
Council respectfully request users to follow the directions of Proterra Staff. They are here to assist you and to keep the landfill operating as efficiently and effectively as possible.
Location:
Longreach Waste Disposal Facility is located at 408 Stonehenge River Road Longreach.

The Ilfracombe Waste Facility is open 24/7. Residents are requested to adhere to all site rules and ensure that waste is placed in the appropriately designated area.
The following items can be disposed of at the Ilfracombe Waste Facility:
- General Waste
- Green Waste
- Tyres
- Used Batteries
- Scrap Metal
- Timber/construction waste
During wet weather, access to the Ilfracombe Waste Facility may be restricted. When this occurs, Council may make available a skip bin for disposal of general waste.
Location:
Ilfracombe Waste Disposal Facility is located at the Dump Road south of Ilfracombe.

The Isisford Waste Facility is open 24/7. Residents are requested to adhere to all site rules and ensure that waste is placed in the appropriately designated area.
The following items can be disposed of at the Ilfracombe Waste Facility:

- Scrap Metal
- Timber/construction waste
- Waste Oil
Location:
Isisford Waste Disposal Facility is located off St Osyth Street south of Isisford.

The Yaraka Waste Facility is open 24/7. Residents are requested to adhere to all site rules and ensure that waste is placed in the appropriately designated area.
The following items can be disposed of at the Yaraka Waste Facility:
- General Waste
- Green Waste
- Tyres
- Used Batteries
- Scrap Metal
- Timber/construction waste
- Waste Oil
Location:
Yaraka Waste Disposal Facility is located off the Yaraka-Emmett Road approx. 1km north of Yaraka.
Prohibited Disposal Items

The following prohibited items not accepted for disposal:
- Any waste materials or products derived from outside the Longreach Regional Council area.
- Waste mineral oil
- Waste cooking oil
- Dead animals
- Chemicals
- Empty chemical containers - DrumMuster collection point facility located at Council depot, Kite Street, Longreach by appointment only
- Treated timber, including timber light poles and “butts”
- Other hazardous items at discretion of staff.
- Items not to be removed from site:
- Electrical items
- Clothing
- Food
- Putrescible (perishable) waste
- Items capable of injury or causing a public health/safety risk
- Other items at discretion of staff
