"My Garden" Competition

This competition is for all our avid gardeners in the region. Show us your best garden to win your category and the best overall garden will take the major prize home! 

Everybody is welcome to enter this free competition. Simply fill out the nomination form and get gardening. 
Nominations will close 31. July and judging will take place in August. The awards ceremony will take place in September with date and time to be finalised.

Garden Category Description

Best use of native plants

Entries must consist of a significant proportion of Australian native plants presented in a layout that both enhances and compliments other plant varieties in the surrounding garden. The types of native plants used should possess ecological qualities such as attracting bees, birds and butterflies.

Best corporate/community garden

Entry in this category is open to businesses, government and other corporate entities, training and tertiary education institutions, school grounds and community support organisations. Gardens entered in this category will have been created to beautify and compliment the facade and/or surrounds/grounds of the particular premises concerned.

Best rural garden

This category is open to all gardens with a rural address.

Best town garden

This category is open to all gardeners who live in town either renting or owning a place. Entries can feature of a new garden or an existing one.

Best flower garden

Entries in this category can be for either planted gardens, garden beds or flower-pot gardens that are focused on providing an abundance of eye-catching colour and fragrance stemming from vibrant displays of spring annuals and/or seasonal flowering shrubs.

Best vegetable garden

This category is all about edible plants and trees. 

*In all categories judges will consider the impression of the whole garden including footpaths*

Conditions

  • The competition is open to all residents of the Longreach Regional Council area.
  • You may nominate for as many categories as applicable to your garden. There will be only one winner per category across the Region. The judges will select one Grand Champion prize winner.
  • Nomination forms can be found online and need to be submitted by 31 July 2024.
  • Judging will be conducted in August. All judging decision will be final. The award presentation date is TBC.
