Longreach Regional Council is excited to announce another engaging school holiday program for the upcoming holidays! We have a wide array of activities lined up to ensure the kids are entertained and have a blast. From creative workshops to outdoor adventures, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Be sure to mark your calendars and join us for a fun-filled holiday season!

Tuesday 25th June 9am - 1pm - Edkins Park - 5 - 17 years

Craft in the Park

Come along for a creative and fun-filled session in the park! Our activities include:

  • Build Your Own Garden Tyerarium: Let your imagination run wild as you create a mini garden using recycled materials.
  • Tie-Dye Your Own Garment: Bring a plain piece of clothing and turn it into a colorful masterpiece with our tie-dye station.
  • Build a Kite: Design and construct your very own kite, perfect for some outdoor fun once it’s complete.

Join us for a fantastic day of crafting and creativity!

Friday 28th June - 9am - 1pm - Longreach Showgrounds - 5 - 17 years

Geocaching Adventure

Head down to the showgrounds and test your skills at geocaching! Learn a new skill and embark on a great adventure with friends. This exciting treasure hunt will challenge your navigation abilities and provide plenty of fun and exploration. Join us for a thrilling day of geocaching and discover hidden treasures around the showgrounds!

Skateboarding Workshop

Join us at the skatepark for an exhilarating skateboarding workshop with Chiggys Skateboarding Crew! Whether you're looking to refresh your boarding skills or learn some new tricks, this is the perfect opportunity to have fun and improve your skateboarding abilities. Come along and enjoy a day of excitement and adventure on the ramps!

Monday 1st July - 9am - 1pm - Longreach Civic Centre - 5 - 17 years

Movie Marathon

Come along and chill out at our movie marathon! Bring your pillows, blankets or bean bags and enjoy a relaxing day filled with entertainment, complete with popcorn and snacks. Sit back, unwind, and watch a selection of  films with friends. It's the perfect way to spend a laid-back day during the holidays.

Wednesday 3rd July - 9am - 1pm - Ibis Street Arts & Craft Centre - 5 - 17 years

Handicrafts

Come along for a morning of handicraft activities, where you can enjoy sewing, designing, and creating lasting mementos and memories. Join us for a fun and creative experience!

Saturday 22nd June - Sunday 7th July - Any of the rivers in the Longreach Region - All ages

Online Fishing Competition

Grab your rod and your mates and head out to the rivers in our region for our Online Fishing Competition! Try your luck at hooking the big fish and enjoy fishing at your leisure. To enter, simply take a photo of your legal-sized catch and send it to liz.turner@longreach.qld.gov.au with your name, age, and category. It's a great way to enjoy the outdoors and compete for some fantastic prizes!

Competition starts Saturday 22nd June, and ends Sunday 7th July 2024.

Here's how it works: Once you catch a fish of legal size, snap a photo of your catch next to a measuring stick. Email the photo to lizt@longreach.qld.gov.au along with your name, age, and category. Feel free to submit as many entries as you'd like in each category.

This competition is open to children aged 5 to 17 across the entirety of the Longreach Region.

The winners in each category will be announced on Tuesday 9th July 2024.

  • RULES & GUIDELINES
  • Fish must be alive at the time of the photo, NO PINK FISH, we do encourage catch and release (except sleepy cod they must be removed).
  • Only legal-size fish will be accepted, photos must be submitted against a measurement device.
  • Fish must be caught in the Thomson River, Barcoo River, Oma waterhole.
  • All fishing must be in accordance with Recreational Fishing rules and regulations in Queensland issued by the department of Agriculture and Fisheries. Copies of rules are available on their website at www.daf.qld.gov.au
  • Please compete honest and fair.
