Elections
The 2024 local government elections will include elections for mayors and councillors in each of Queensland’s 77 councils. Election day will be on Saturday, 16 March 2024.
The 2024 Local Government Elections Service Plan outlines the electoral services that will be provided at the election.
The Longreach Regional Council election will be conducted by full postal ballot; there will be no polling stations on election day. Once you recieve your postal ballot you are free to submit it prior to polling day.

Election Signage Regulations
The person(s) wishing to place signage in Council controlled areas must obtain written approval from the Chief Executive Officer or delegate prior to any signs being erected.
Key Dates – 2024 Quadrennial Local Government Election

The ECQ proposes to publish the Notice of Election on Monday 29 January 2024. This will also represent the start of the caretaker period.

Electors have until 5pm, Monday 5 February 2024 to either update their enrolment to a new name or address or to enrol for the first time. This will ensure their eligibility to vote in this election.

Nominations for candidates for the election will be open from the publication of the Notice of Election on 29 January 2024, until midday on Tuesday, 13 February 2024. Details of candidates will be published on the ECQ’s website.

The ECQ will conduct a random draw to determine the order in which candidates appear on ballot papers on Wednesday, 14 February 2024.

On polling day, ECQ will complete an inital count of the postal votes, however, Tuesday 26 March 2024 will be the last day for return of Postal Votes.
