AMAZING RACE - Queensland Day Edition

Teams of 2 will compete in this fun and amazing race to be growned champions and win big! It will take teamwork, creativity, strenght and brains to come out on top. 

Do you have what it takes?! Nominate your team! Nomination will close Friday 31 May. Find all information including the T&C in the application form. 

On the day:

9-10am: Sign-in
10am: Heats
12.30 - 1.30pm: Final race
1.30pm: Award ceremony

Amazing Race - FAQs

  • You will need to be at least 10 years of age to compete. 
    Teams of 2 can consist of 2 adults, 1 adult and 1 child or 2 teenagers.

  • The challenges are a mix of stations to challenge your fitness, teamwork and brains. 

  • You will need to be onsite between 9am-10am on Sunday 9 June at the Longreach Showgrounds. 
    You and your partner will need to sign-in and sign a waver for the event. 

  • Competitiors need to be over 10 years of age. 
    If 2 teenagers are competing a parents/responsible adult will need to sign the waver for them on the day of the event. 

What else is happening on the day?

9am-10am: The event will kick-off with a colour run through the Showgrounds for all ages. Come in white and leave colourful.

10am - 1pm: Super Mario Cart Competition in the Arts & Craft Pavilion. Everyone will be battling against each other, come and join the fun.

All day: Market stalls and kids activity areas plus food and drinks are available for purchase as well. 

Come to the Showgrounds for a day full of fun and entertainment, there will be no time to be bored!

Smokin' the Outback Competition - Meat Smoking Competition

We are looking for the next Outback smokin' Champion!

It's not just about cooking; it's about the flavor, tenderness, and presentation. Get together with other BBQ enthusiats, share tips and techniques, and, of course, enjoy some delicious smoked meats! 

Do you have a passion for smoking meat and would you like to bring you culinary delights to be judged for a chance to win $1000 worth in prizes?!

Get ready and start cooking at midnight Saturday to Sunday with judging taking place at 12pm Sunday. You got exactly 12h to showcase your best smoking. Bring your smoker, your equipment and your skills to the Longreach Showgrounds and get smoking!

Smokin' the Outback - FAQs

  • REGISTRATION & FEE

    Entry Fee: $20
    Registration: Submit this form, entry fee to be paid to the Longreach Regional Council Office by 4pm Friday 31st May 2024
    Competitors under 18 years of age will need to be supervised by a responsible adult

    COLLECTION, TURN IN & JUDGING:

    • Selection of meat will be from 4.30pm Saturday 8th June at the showgrounds canteen
    • Main competition meat will be supplied by Longreach Regional Council, competitiors are to supply ingrdients for sides and desserts
    • Collection of individual meat packs and turn in containers will be at Midnight 9th June from the Showground canteen
    • Fires to be lit from 10pm Saturday 8th June - any fires lit prior to 10pm will be extinguished
    • Turn in and judging will commence at 12pm Sunday 9th June
    • All other ingredients are to be provided by the competitor
    • Each competitor is to turn in one sample of the main, a side and a dessert along with a sample of the mystery protein
    • Cooking can only be done on a charcoal, wood, pellet or electrical fired device, meats cooked in any other manner will not be accepted e.g. boiled or fried
    • Contestants are responsible for observing accepted temperature and sanitary requirements, all foods must be prepared and cooked in as safe and hygienic environment as possible in the competition area

    TERMS & CONDITIONS

    COMPETITION TIMES:

    • Competition commences from Midnight 9th June – 12pm Sunday 9th June – 12hrs cooking time
    • Fires are to be lit from 10pm Saturday 8th June
    • Competitors are required to remain onsite during the competiton, sites are not to be left unattended for extended periods of time
    • All cooking is to be done within these competition times, no precooking is allowed
    • Ilfracombe Rural Fire Brigade will be onsite from 10pm overnight supervising any potential fire hazards

    SITE ACCESS:

    • Access to the competition site for set up will be from 9am – 4pm Saturday 8th June 2024
    • Clean up will be at the conclusion of the competition from 12pm Sunday 9th June, and must be completed by 5pm Sunday 9th June
    • No deliveries will be allowed during competition times
    • Teams who show up late will not be admitted to the competition site

    VEHICLES:

    • All vehicles are to be removed from the competition site at 4pm Saturday 8th June and are not allowed in this area during competition times, they are to be parked in the designated parking area

    GARDENS:

    • Please take care of our gardens and garden areas in the competition area, do not use trees or branches in any way in your competition area.  No oils, liquids, coals, food scraps are to be put in garden beds

    CONDUCT:

    • All competitors are to behave in a professional and courteous manner at all times
    • Competitors are to take direction from the event management and security at all times

    SITE REGULATIONS:

    • No pets or livestock will be permitted on the competition cooking site
    • No loud music during the hours from Midnight – 7am
    • All fires must be in fire pits above ground, NO digging in the ground will be permitted
    • Each competitor site will be a marked 3m x 6m area
    • Competitors are responsible for providing their own marquee/gazebo/umbrella, Smoker, and all other equipment required for the competition (Competition meat only will be supplied)
    • Marquees/gazebos/umbrellas must be weighted down with suitable weights such as sand bags or weights, pegging in the ground is NOT permitted due to underground services

    GARBAGE & CLEAN UP:

    • The event will supply a skip bin for general waste, nothing is to be disposed of down drains or in gardens beds
    • A drum will be provided to discard pit coals into at the end of the competition
    • All oils must be removed from the site at the end of the event
    • Sites must be left as they were found, it is the competitor’s responsibility to dispose of all waste, fires, coals etc. and ensure the site is left clean and tidy
  • You can compete as an individual if you like and you can get some mates or family on board and get smoking together.

  • We will have a generator available for the competitors in the area where the smokers are set-up to utilise during the competition. We just ask you to please bring you own extension leads if you need power. 

    There will be NO power for the area where you can park your car or caravan for the competition. You will need to be self-sufficient. There is toilets and showers available.

  • We will have an area next to the netball court where you can park your car/caravan to stay the night.There will not be enough space in the cooking area. We will have showers and toilets for everyone to use. 

  • You can use any kind of smoker for the competition. For the wood fired ones, please be aware that you can't start a fire before 10pm. 

  • You will find out what meats to cook prior to the competiton to prepare your sides and dessert as well as looking into sauces and spices. 
    The mystery meat will be revelead when you pick-up your box at midnight.
